What Mike is Reading . . . 

Mike Piero is a teacher, writer, and amateur photographer. As a young writer, he is "steering the craft" of his writing, as novelist Ursula Le Guin puts it, including both fictional and nonfictional texts, insofar as those two genres can, in fact, be separated.  

As a contributing writer on BrightHub.com, Mike occasionally writes technological how-to articles and product reviews. Aside from his expertise in technology and computer repair, he also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education from The University of Akron as well as an Ohio AYA: Language Arts teaching license. 

Mike is currently working on his M.A. in English at John Carroll University. His research interests iinclude post-colonial studies, 20th and 21st-century British literature, and critical theory. He works for the university in the capacity of a graduate assistant in the English department, teaching courses in Composition and Rhetoric. He also works on the prose staff of The John Carroll Review. He recently designed the Fall 2010 English Department Course Guide and wrote the Opening Letter to First Year Writing Students in JCU's FYW Handbook. 

Mike Piero is a member of the Modern Language AssociationAfrican American Literature & Culture Society, Langston Hughes Society, College English Association, and the Midwest Modern Language Association. 

His favorite authors include George Orwell, J. M. Coetzee, Simon Armitage, Samuel Beckett, Paulo Coelho, John Steinbeck, Jacques Derrida, Paul de Man, Roland Barthes, Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Chaim Potok, and Lois Lowry. 

Married in the summer of 2008, Mike lives with his beautiful wife in Northeast Ohio.
